On the eve of his half-decade plus one year in charge, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his future at Arsenal is fundamentally dependent to delivering trophies.

The Journey So Far: The Arteta Era

Arteta assumed control on 20 December 2019 and promptly led the team to an FA Cup victory within months. Yet, that initial silverware is still his lone top-tier trophy following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Absolutely,” Arteta responded upon being asked about remaining in charge after his current deal. “However, it is about today. And numerous factors must occur in the next few months as well to warrant that continuation.”

Saturday night brings the anniversary with a game facing Everton, the identical team Arsenal met just after his appointment was announced.

League Position and Pressure

Given that chasing Manchester City playing against West Ham in an earlier kick-off, Arsenal could be displaced the summit in the Premier League before their own match begins. This situation arises despite Arteta presiding over a squad that has been plagued by in excess of one hundred injury setbacks since the start of last season.

Arteta is tied down by a year and a half left on the contract he inked in 2024, however, he knows that results must come sooner rather than later.

Survival in the Job

Arteta elaborated, emphasizing the constant necessity to prove his worth. “My belief is that a manager must deserve the right to be here tomorrow. And that is determined by how you react, how you communicate, how you step into the dressing room, the instructions you give.”

He added, expressing gratitude for the consistent faith from the club's ownership, but pinpointing the team's buy-in as most crucial. “In the final analysis, the key individuals are those players... For six years, I’ve seen just players with a standard of focus, willingness to improve and give their all to the team.”

Squad Setbacks

The squad faces the weekend fixture managing yet another injury. Defender Ben White has been declared unavailable with a strain that is expected to sideline him for a few weeks.

A Different Club

Despite the availability issues and the high-stakes environment, Arteta believes the club's “objectives and communication” are profoundly distinct from when he initially took over.

The manager referenced the record-breaking achievements as a sign they are nearing their goal. “Examine the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the standard we operate at.”

He finished by saying, “That is a level that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our ambition is to achieve greater objectives. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
