Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" following a confrontation with a TV crew member in the wake of the Citizens' loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, without a doubt. Why I support my squad is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

Team Standing and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 we have to improve a lot," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, have you ever heard me discuss four trophies last winter during our historic run? Never."

Interaction with Guimarães

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno for many years and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we converse. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I enjoy it. I'm passionate, I like discussing and gesticulate."

Guardiola would not be concerned should a rival coach addressed his squad immediately after a game. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he noted, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved throughout the match, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, while they also questioned Bruno's positioning on Barnes' goal the decisive strike. Pictures published later show he was level.

Upcoming Milestone

He will manage his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

City have 10 points after four games in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
